Steel Stair Detailing
Stairs are part of nearly every other project we work on and many of our projects are stair-focused from the start. Our team details back-of-house stairs, industrial access stairs, and feature stairs with custom railings, glass, and visible finish requirements.
We prepare shop-ready drawings and coordinated models for stringers, landings, railings, embeds, and supports, helping the work move smoothly through fabrication and installation.

Steel Stair Detailing Built for Fabrication
Good steel stair detailing comes down to geometry, connections, and fit. Stairs need to work with the surrounding steel, concrete, openings, and finishes, not just work on paper.
Clear stair details shape the whole package: layout, landings, stringers, handrails, and connections. We build each stair package so it reads clearly in the shop, fits cleanly in the field, and moves through fabrication with fewer questions along the way.
What Gets Resolved Before Steel Reaches Your Shop
Fit
- Stair runs, landings, elevations, and supports are checked against actual field conditions.
- Openings, offsets, and connections locations are aligned with the surrounding structure early in the process.
- The full stair package is reviewed so it fits cleanly with steel, concrete, and finishes around it.
Geometry
- Stair dimensions, elevations, and landing levels are double-checked against architectural and structural drawings before release.
- Stair heights, guardrail heights, handrail extensions, and terminations are defined from the design and checked for code compliance.
- Shop drawings dimension steel assemblies, stringers, and railings with clear references to part and connection details per client standards
Your team gets a stair package that is clear, coordinated, and ready for fabrication.
Our Steel Stair Detailing
Services
- Stair Framing & Modeling
We build stair models around real project conditions and prepare stringer details, landing framing, and support layouts for clean fabrication, fit-up, and installation.
- Railings, Handrails & Connections
We detail handrails, guardrails, railing panels, glass infill panels, extensions, and connection details so every railing element ties back clearly to the stair frame and landings.
- Coordination & Existing Conditions
We coordinate stair models with structural steel, concrete, finishes, and other trades, and adjust them for retrofit work, existing structures, and field-measured dimensions.
- Revisions & Fabrication Support
We incorporate revisions in a controlled way and keep the stair package updated to support fabrication, installation, and follow-up questions.

How We Handle Steel Stair Detailing
Our steel stair detailing process is built to keep fabrication and installation moving.
The goal is simple: define the stair geometry and design early, keep drawings clear, and give your shop a set they can work from with confidence.
Kickoff & Scope Alignment
We set up the project environment before modeling begins and confirm scope, standards, thread design, railing requirements, support conditions, and key project parameters upfront.
Modeling & Coordination
We build a detailed 3D stair model and coordinate width, heights, clearances and headrooms, and support conditions with structural steel, concrete, finishes, and openings.
Submittal & Ongoing Support
Once approved, you receive a complete package of shop and erection drawings, NC/DXF files, material lists, and BIM/IFC exports, and we stay available to support the job during fabrication and installation.
01
Design Review & Early RFI
Before modeling starts, we review drawings, sections, dimensions, and specification requirements to catch missing information, unclear stair details, and possible coordination gaps early.
QA & Double-Check
Each release and revision goes through two independent checks for geometry, elevations, connections, railing dimentions, code compliance, and drawing consistency.

Why Fabricators Trust
Our Detailers
Stair packages need more than a clean-looking model. They need to fit, connect properly, and make sense in the shop. That is why our team pays close attention to layout, stringers, rail alignment, and the details that affect fabrication and fit-up most.
- Double-check QA process
- Engineering background detailers
- Shop-focused approach
- Clear communication during revisions
- AISC-aligned workflows
