The Challenge
What initially looked like a straightforward one-week job slowly revealed itself as anything but. It quickly became clear that the MEP contractor would not provide any models. That meant we had to model the air ducts ourselves to set the supports correctly.
As this project unraveled, the MEP design changed multiple times, and we were continually altering the duct layout to accommodate those changes. Moreover, the site conditions were very different from the theoretical beam layout. It added another layer of complexity as we had to modify the supports and get them approved by EOR once again after receiving “AAN.”
Our Expertise
We took a proactive approach. We precisely modeled the air ducts using the available information and kept updating the model for changes in the MEP. This enabled us to position the supports correctly and make them fully functional.
We spotted significant deviations from the original design intent and got them approved by EOR to ensure that the updated support layout meets the design criteria.
The Result
The final support system was a perfect fit, meeting the existing roof structure and providing a rock-solid support for the air ducts.
This project was a powerful reminder that challenges are part of the process. With the right mindset and a collaborative team, even the most unpredictable projects can be transformed into success stories.
