ESD Solutions provided full steel detailing services for a rooftop screen wall on an existing commercial building. The structure was designed to hide HVAC units, utility systems, and other rooftop equipment from view—while ensuring long-term structural integrity and full code compliance.

The Challenge

Post Placement Over Embedded Utilities
We needed to place each base plate precisely to avoid electrical conduits embedded in the concrete slab. To do this, we relied on point cloud scans and field measurements. As a result, we located every post without risking damage to the occupied office ceiling below.
Modeling of Custom Louvers
Although louvers are typically off-the-shelf items, the client requested a fully modeled custom system. We recreated each louver, including the profiles, mounting brackets, and connections—integrating them into the structural framing with millimeter precision.
Top Cap with Complex Bends
The bent metal cap at the top wasn’t just aesthetic—it also required exact 3D modeling. Its curved geometry needed to match the frame perfectly. Therefore, we detailed it as a standalone component and tested it virtually for fit-up before final coordination.
